When entrepreneurs first start a home based business, they are filled with excitement, motivation and persistence. Most of this is due to being focused on their dreams and feeling that anything is possible.
As time goes on, most entrepreneurs will experience some form of adversity or frustration. It is one of the most common killers of enthusiasm. I recently read a great article in SUCCESS magazine, featuring an excerpt from John C. Maxwell’s book Put Your Dream to the Test: 10 Questions That Will Help You See It And Seize It. In the article, John Maxwell addresses one of the keys to success in achieving your dreams: it comes down to OWNING your dream.
What do I mean by ‘owning’ your dream? And why bother addressing it? Believe it or not, lots of entrepreneurs start home based businesses for reasons beyond their own desires. They are chasing a dream that is not their own. They want to create more money, but not for their most personal reasons. They want to create more time freedom, but not necessarily to chase their own passions.
And sadly, these well-meaning entrepreneurs do not even know their reasons for getting into business in the first place. It seems as if their dreams are not their own.
I challenge you to take full ownership of your dreams. Decide right now what it is you are going to sacrifice for, work your tail off for, and what is worth pursuing with dogged determination and focus.
Your dreams are vitally important to your success, but they have to be YOUR dreams. You will not be as successful, and certainly not as fulfilled, if you are working toward someone else’s dreams. Be prepared to set the dreams or ideas of even your most trusted and loved people aside, be it your spouse, your family, your parents or your friends.
If they are in alignment with what you want and where you are going, great! But you owe it to yourself to pursue YOUR dreams, the aspirations YOU hold most dear to your heart. I am fortunate, because when Mia and I started off in LifePath Unlimited, we had a common focus, common dreams. And it has made the journey that much more enjoyable!
My hope is that you experience the same synergistic flow in your pursuits. Just remember to stay true to your dreams, and make sure that they are YOUR dreams!
Stay tuned for my next post where I will talk to you about clarity of your dreams. Find out why having vision means much more than seeing clearly…
To Your Success,
