Friday was rough, but Saturday was no picnic, either! I have been having a pretty good week in my home based business and getting lots of support from friends, family, and members of the LifePath Unlimited community. But for some reason, I hit the wall and nearly had a meltdown on Saturday, Day 9. Check out how I overcame it!

Look, I am strong-willed guy, but even I struggled with sitting around great food, cold beer and amazing friends while on a juice fast. Check out how I dealt with a less-than-smooth Friday, and night out at a restaurant by the same name! Don’t worry, I hung in there and managed to stick to the fast. It was great to hang out with some fantastic friends who are very supportive of my fast!

Day 6 is in the bag and I can say that I am feeling pretty good lately. Lots of energy and very little food cravings. Mia and the kids and I went to our friends Ty and Mellisa Rice’s house for dinner. Mellisa made a beautiful salmon dinner with all the fixings. The beer was flowing and so was the juice! This was my second major “test” and I passed with flying colors…NO CHEATING!

The message to take away from this is that it pays to have great friends and family who love and support you in any decision you make in life. Sometimes we chose paths that make others question our decision-making abilities, even our sanity. But a small yet constructive support group who is not afraid to give their input is invaluable!

I am so grateful to have people like this in my life!

Hey, Day 5 was a great day and I wanted to share with you some of the stuff that happened. In the video you see the part about the carrot cake and the ice cream man, but one part I left out was my return to the mountain bike.

It was the first time I had been on my bike in several weeks, and I definitely felt the lay-off! It was a bit like going out to play after having the stomach flu; I was winded and fatigues quicker than I ever have been. But interestingly, I felt a faster, more sustained second wind. I have to believe that came from the juice and the fatigue came from being out of shape!

Okay, so today was the first day I felt good all day. I had tons of energy and experienced very little hunger or craving woes. Still miss beer, still miss grilled meat, but not like I did in the previous days. If you have been following my previous days, you will know what I have been drinking. I won’t bore you with redundant details, but suffice it to say all my juices are organic fruits and veggies that we got from a local farmer’s market.

One thing I was thinking about that I fumbled over in the video is my addition of spirulina in the juice. Spirulina is a natural vegetable-based protein that is amazing at quelling hunger and maintaining muscle mass. I’ll talk more about it in the next video.

Okay, this was by far the toughest day I’ve had so far. It started off great! Had an amazing breakfast drink, followed by a nice lunch juice. What nearly killed me was dinner. Not my dinner, but my family’s dinner.

You see, my mom came by for dinner, so I made an awesome dinner of rotisserie-roasted chicken, brussle sprouts with fennel/garlic/walnuts/herbs, and a wonderful grain mix from Trader Joe’s. The smell alone nearly brought me to tears.

The night before I had a dream that I scarfed down a Fillet Mignon and an ice-cold beer. I woke up in a panic…seriously! THEN, went to the San Diego farmer’s market and accidentally ate a strawberry that a nice woman offered me!

Anyway, Day 3 was nice. Here is what I had on Day 3:
-Breakfast juice: watermelon, strawberries, apples, oranges, grapefruit
-Lunch Juice: tomatoes, carrots, celery, kale, Swiss Chard, red bell pepper, cucumber
-Mid-Afternoon Juice: watermelon, strawberries, apples
Dinner Juice (drank like a soup in a bowl w/ a spoon): tomatoes, carrots, fennel stalk, red bell pepper, Pepperoncini, celery, cucumber, Swiss Chard
-Evening Juice snack: orange, lemon, lime

Ah, the joy of cooking. But I suggest you do not cook when you are on a juice fast. It is just too painful, and not real bright. See you soon!

But unfortunately, some home based entrepreneurs don’t approach the business from a sense of fulfillment; often times they see their enterprise as a conduit through which to attain materialistic “things”, like money or maybe a big house and a flashy car.

What I’m suggesting today is that you approach your dreams and your goals, especially in your home based business, from a place of fulfillment. The money, the house, the cars…all that stuff is great, but they cannot surpass the joy of total fulfillment that you feel when you pursue something bigger than materialistic gain.

Don’t get me wrong; money is great. It allows you to focus on doing other things in life. With money you can travel, pursue your true passions and give back and be of service to others. But money shouldn’t be the only focus in building your business.

Total fulfillment in building a business and achieving your dreams comes from knowing that what you’re doing is something bigger than yourself. What I’m suggesting here is that you dedicate each day to working towards the dream of bringing satisfaction to yourself and others through putting forth, in other words, focus on the journey, rather than the destination.

The old saying goes “success is a journey, not a destination” and that is so true! Really, if you’re fulfilled by the journey of building a business, then you’re going to be much happier, successful, and far more prosperous in the end. The rewards of the journey far exceed the arrival at the destination. My LifePath Unlimited business is built on fulfilling dreams, not just for myself, but assisting other people to fulfill their own; I’m building success in myself and leading others to do the same for themselves, and that is very fulfilling! Making a positive influence on people every single day pays me huge dividends. It gives me a lot of joy and a lot of satisfaction. And oh, by the way, the money happens to be pretty awesome too.

So I encourage you to pursue your dreams with a mindset of fulfillment. By working towards a dream, with the idea of obtaining satisfaction along the journey vice satisfaction solely from the result, you will realize the fulfilling joy now, rather than waiting until the end of the journey.

One question I get from people starting home based business is “How long will it take?” My answer (as I alluded to in the previous post) is “until”. Until you get there, until you succeed, or until you quit. That is how long it takes. But how do you know if you are making progress?

One of my favorite principles of success is the principle of momentum. If you watch sports, you see it all the time. One team or individual can be so far out in front of their opponent, only to allow a mistake or setback derail their focus, and suddenly the momentum shifts the other direction.

Business is the same way.

You can be very productive, creating lots of growth and enjoying the success you deserve when suddenly a distraction pops up and seems to slash your momentum. That is a good time to assess where you are relative to where you started. Instead of looking at the setback as a nuisance, take a moment to measure your progress and discover just how far that momentum has carried you.

Momentum is a curious thing. You see, it is all relative. If you are driving down the freeway at 100 miles per hour, you don’t physically feel the speed (unless you are accelerating!). But the observer (hopefully not a police officer!) who stands on the side of the road will definitely observe your momentum. To them, you blew right by.

This is true in your business. I don’t care how good or bad the economy is, people will make excuses not to get started in business. Others will jump right in, and while those entrepreneurs who go full speed ahead with their enterprise may feel stagnation or frustration in their business, the person who decides not to begin never builds that momentum because they never accelerate form the dead stop that they are in with their present situation.

When I first started building my LifePath Unlimited business, I knew very little about marketing. But through diligent study, masterminding with experts, and having an amazing business partner (who also happens to be my wife) who is as motivated to succeed as I am, I have seen tremendous progress toward my ultimate goals. Do I experience stagnation or slowing in my business? Of course, just like every entrepreneur does from time to time.

The key to staying focused on forward momentum is to take inventory of how far you have come since getting started, the growth you have created for yourself, and the distance you have made up between your starting point and your ultimate dream. And that is all you may need to stay tenacious and hungry for the success you deserve.

One disclaimer before we get started: I am not saying that the path to your dream has to be riddled with pain and agony. But let’s be honest; the bigger the dream, the more complex the journey will be in most cases. The more complex the journey, the more challenges you will face along the way. I challenge you to look at any high-achiever and find that their path to riches and success was an easy one.

So with that said, let’s begin…

The question of how much your dream costs should not be the focus of your pursuit. I suggest you focus on the price you are willing to pay to get to your dreams. It is so critical to come to grips with this notion right now. Even if you are already on the journey, get comfortable with that level of commitment from this point forward.

How far are you willing to go to achieve your goals? How much money, time and human resources are you willing to invest to make your dream a reality? Are you willing to relocate? Are you willing to lose everything you currently have? How long are you willing to hang in there in order to succeed.
Hopefully your answer is “until…”

When I was in flight school, about halfway through the training, I felt as if I would never graduate. The training was arduous and grueling, and seemed to never end. It was a 24-hour per day, 7 days a week obsession. There were times I “hit the wall” and thought I might not make it. But I knew if I hung in one more day, hung in “until”, I would make it.

Toward the end of training, I was almost shocked that I was a few steps away from my childhood dream of becoming a Navy pilot. At one point, that shock nearly derailed me. I was doing well up to that point, and definitely pointed down the path to graduation, when I suddenly realized the toughest part of training was still ahead of me. I knew that, despite all the struggles and hard work I had already put in, the hardest part was still in front of me. I had a brief feeling of hesitation, then a rejuvenating sense of inspiration.

It was in that moment that I realized I was not going to fail, no matter what.

I struggled mightily in the final phase of training, but to me, I knew there was no other path. I was going to make it or die trying. In the end, I succeeded. The day they pinned my wings of gold to my chest I was absolutely filled with pride, fulfillment and confidence because I had done what so many others told me I could not do.

While the graduation moment was great, it was finite. The bigger gift I received from seeing my dream through to the end was the many lessons I learned, and continue to learn from today. There are times in my LifePath Unlimited business when I am faced with a challenge that I know I will conquer, simply because I have faced bigger challenges in flight school.

When a fellow entrepreneur calls for advice, I can assist them by calling on my experience in achievement to get them through their tough patch. Now, I am not suggesting you sign up with the Navy and apply for flight training. What I hope you do is consider the experiences you already have had in your life and how they can assist you in achieving your big dream.

Realize that the price you may have to pay to attain your dream might be hefty. I know my dream is so big that I will no doubt see plenty of challenges along the way. But that is the exciting part! As you see setbacks and challenges, look at them not as painful discouragements, but rather indications that you are pointed toward something huge. And if you learn from those setbacks, you will overcome them and grow from them.
